On November 29th Private Michael A. Burke (from Fort Pierce, FL) was in a Humvee near Baghdad in Iraq and it was hit by an IED (improvised explosive device). Burke survived but, unfortunately, his friend Pfc. Theodore West from Richmond, KY did not. Burke shared the experience on his MySpace page.
Although Pvt. Burke did call home from the hospital, his mother, Dorothy Johnson, was able to learn more details of her son's incident on his MySpace page.
Burke wrote on his MySpace page, "(W)e were on a mission to catch two insurgents shooting mortars at us." "... just as we left, my humvee was struck by an i.e.d. aka road side bomb ... we took the hit directly under the humvee ... as we were hit I was thrown from the vehicle ..."
